FACTS AND
OPINIONS ABOUT THE MTA TAX
The tax is .34% (.0034) of covered payroll or self employment
income (You 1099 Filer's have to pay it too!) and will probably be
higher next year
There is no reduction or exemption for businesses which do not
use the services
The MTA can't balance their budget even with the first payment
from taxes collected already.
This tax will increase our already high Real Estate Taxes
(because the villages, towns and counties also need to pay this tax
and they will pass it on to the taxpayers
We are already overburdened with a bad economy and many small
businesses are going out of business
Even with this tax the LIRR and subway fares WILL be
raised and as of this week, services will be CUT!
New Yorkers in the downstate area will wind up paying more than
$10 billion in NEW fees, taxes, and fare hikes
We have also been hit with the increase in Vehicle registration
fees
Corporations, transportation companies, banks and insurance
companies are already paying a MTA surcharge on their corporate
earnings
The use of mass transportation on Long Island, especially in
Suffolk County, is very limited due to the three tracks, and the
length of time it would take to get from North to South or vice
versa.
Long Islanders have no subway system to get them from place to
place, therefore, they are subject to the increase in gas prices
